If you’ve always wanted to tour a brewery but found it hard to escape from work during the week, we have good news: the combined tour of Alrode Brewery and the SAB World of Beer now also takes place one Saturday a month, making it easier for you to attend – and to bring your friends.
From April 2017, the order of our tours have also changed. You will now first visit Alrode – the largest brewery in Africa and, until very recently, the largest in the southern hemisphere – to see behind the scenes where beer is made, and then go on to the World of Beer for a shortened journey through the history of beer.
Arrive at the SAB World of Beer in Newtown, Johannesburg, by 9.30am. At 10am, you will depart by shuttle to Alrode, where SAB trade brewer Anton Erasmus will guide you through the brewing and packaging process. (Remember to wear closed, comfortable shoes.)
You will return to the World of Beer by 12.30pm for your beer tour, followed by lunch and refreshments in the Tap Room overlooking the city from 1pm to 2pm, when the experience ends.
“We are pleased to offer the same popular experience here in Gauteng as the Newlands Brewery in Cape Town offers its residents and tourists,” says Tony Rubin, SAB World of Beer general manager.
Dates for the monthly combined Saturday tours up to July are 8 April, 13 May, 10 June and 15 July.
The cost of the tour is R424 per person (no under-18s, unfortunately), including transport to and from Alrode Brewery, a beverage and snack on the shuttle, lunch, and secure parking at the World of Beer.
It is essential to book in advance (tours accommodate a minimum of 20 people and a maximum of 50). Contact us here to book your spot.
If you and a group of friends or colleagues would like to do the Alrode tour on a different day, please contact us – we might just be able to organise it for you.
