"For mahala? Really?"
"Happy Mandela Day!"
"I wish every day could be Mandela Day."
These were the reactions of surprised passers-by at the SAB World of Beer this morning when our team offered them a delicious cup of soup and fresh bread in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day 2017.
Our caterers, The Culinary Entertainment Company, supplied two large pots of mouthwatering minestrone and butternut soup, which the World of Beer team happily dished out in front of our premises in Newtown, Johannesburg.
"Good is not even the word. This is very good," said Kamogelo Zwane after having her first sip.
"I like the fact that people wanted to have our soup. We're giving back to the community and they appreciate that we're doing it," said World of Beer financial administrator Jessie Mahlasela.
Newman Paradzai, chef at The Culinary Entertainment Company, said: "Today, we're remembering the icon [Nelson Mandela] who made the difference."
"At the SAB World of Beer, we care about our surrounding communities, and even more so in winter. Besides our Mandela Day initiative, we're also running a blanket drive until the end of July," said World of Beer general manager Tony Rubin.
"We're encouraging visitors to the World of Beer to donate a blanket, and in exchange you can join our beer tour for free," explained Tony.
